Experience

I have worked in the food service industry as the lead cashier of a boba shop that welcomes over 350 customers on its busiest days. I am also involved in my academic community as a Dornsife Ambassador, where I serve as a member of the Diversity Leadership team. As a student ambassador, I had the opportunity to participate in this year’s merit scholarship interviews and collaborate with Dornsife faculty members in selecting the best-fit candidates for academic awards. Additionally, I am a member of the Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity, which allows me to connect with other students who share the same pre-professional focus. I also participate in the Asian American Tutorial Project, where I write pen pal letters to a local elementary school student. Currently, I am taking PR 250, an introductory course in Strategic Public Relations and Advertising.

Education

I am a sophomore at the University of Southern California double majoring in Psychology (B.A.) and Public Relations & Advertising (B.A.).

3 Questions With Angela

  • What’s the best thing you cook?
The best thing I can cook is a fried egg, which I have a decade of experience making.

  • When was a memorable time you made lemonade out of lemons?
Despite having worked with children in the past, nothing could have prepared me for my internship as a second-grade student teacher at my local public elementary school during my senior year. Alongside the comforting prospects of story time, creative lesson planning, and teacher appreciation day, I also faced hardships like bullying, disobedience, and ignorance—not just from the students. However, instead of viewing this experience as a misfortune, I chose to see it as a challenge that allowed me to grow both personally and professionally. I worked with my supervisor after school to discuss methods for improving student responses and even spoke with the principal to propose an extracurricular program to support struggling students. Through this, those children motivated me to become the best version of myself. I now have more patience and compassion for others than I had before, along with enhanced technical and communication skills. I managed to make the sweetest lemonade from the sourest lemons.

  • Why do you love working in food and beverage PR?
Being the daughter of a chef, my passion for food has run through my veins since birth. The first few years of my life were spent in my family’s restaurant, where I would greet customers at the door with the few words my toddler self could manage. Though I did not follow in my father’s footsteps and pursue the culinary arts, my fascination with food never faded. This is why I love working in food & beverage PR, where I can apply my direct experience in the restaurant industry alongside the knowledge I’ve gained while pursuing communication studies.
